The 6-step reframing or Nth step reframing is an NLP technique which is designed to enable a person to change or modify a behaviour or habit.
"Trust your unconscious mind...it knows more than what you think you know." - Abhay Thhakkar
The NLP technique - '6 step reframing' was developed by NLP co-founder - Dr. John Grinder.
As he says, his unconscious mind gifted this technique to him.
In fact, this is the only NLP technique in NLP ( 'Classic Code NLP' - which usually NLP Trainers in India and overseas teach) in which the subconscious mind is utisilised in selecting the alternate behaviour in a situation.
In all NLP techniques (Classic Code NLP techniques), the conscious mind is involved in selecting the alternate behaviour.
Hence, this NLP technique inspired John Grinder to create New Code NLP.
6 step Reframing / N-Step Reframing is a powerful technique in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) that can help you understand and transform those maladaptive habits by getting to the heart of what's driving them.
But this isn't just about preventing less-than-ideal positive behaviours; it's about discovering how your subconscious mind is working with you, not against you.
It is a NLP technique that is used to identify and change undesired behaviours by identifying the positive intent that is present behind the behaviour.
It works on the premise that all your problematic behaviours, like procrastination, overeating among others are driven by positive intentions from your subconscious mind and that it wants and knows what is required for your highest and greatest good.
It embeds the changes at a deeper level- at the level of your subconscious mind, making the change much more permanent and powerful as the subconscious mind is responsible for 90% of your actions.
Lot of the time, people believe that the subconscious mind is completely inaccessible to us.
However, with small practices like this, we can bring about larger and more efficient changes. The subconscious mind is the seat for all involuntary activities and our actions and decisions are based on this.
This technique involves:
1- Identifying the behaviour for change preparing for and inducting into the process
2 - Obtain signals from your subconscious mind while confirming its connection with you.
3 - Discovering the positive intent behind that behaviour
4 - Identifying and state the alternate behaviours that you would like to replace it with.
5- Conduct an ecology check.
6 - Complete it with the step that cements the responsibility for those actions to be done by the subconscious mind.
This technique has a wide range ofapplications which includes inculcating adaptive behaviours, healing healthissues, promoting self-growth, enhancing personal relationships, helping makedecisions, breaking maladaptive habits and addictions and also protectingyourself from situations or things by placing ‘filters’ for some time.
Some of the key pointers of this NLP technique is that it facilitates subconscious alignment with our conscious thoughts and motivations, empowers us by connecting us with our inner resources and helps us to identify the positive intent behind the behaviour , reducing the effects of our inner critic, reducing internal conflict and promotes a sense of self-compassion and empowerment within us.
The N-Step Reframing technique helps you understand why you're doing things that could appear to be self-detrimental at first glance. It works like a dialogue with your subconscious mind.
One small step at a time, you can bring about genuine, long-lasting change by realising the positive intentions that underlie your behaviours and providing healthier and ecological alternatives to satisfy the same need or behaviour.
